What I Can Help With
Psychotherapy and Counselling Services
When times are difficult, whom can you turn to? Family and friends are not always able to offer the support that is needed.
In times like this, a professional who has been trained to listen and help with problems can support you in reaching a deeper understanding of your difficulties and in making sense of what has been troubling and distressing you. Your problems will be discussed in confidence and without being judgemental or critical.
Counselling andpsychotherapy provide a safe space in which to talk about painful issues and feelings, to understand their origins and the impact of past experiences on your current life situation and to find a better way of dealing with them in the future.
Individual counselling and psychotherapy sessions can be helpful when you are experiencing emotional problems related to:
Depression, a lack of fulfilment in life, anxiety, low self-esteem, stress, work-related problems, phobias, anger, eating problems, identity and gender issues, bullying, emotional and sexual abuse, trauma and post-traumatic stress, psychosomatic illness.
Recent life events such as divorce, bereavement, redundancy and ill health often provide a focus for counselling, as can current and long-standing relationship difficulties.

About Psychotherapy and Counselling
About Psychotherapy and Counselling
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy aims to help people understand and change complex, long-standing and often unconsciously rooted emotional and relationship problems, thereby reducing symptoms and alleviating distress. Its main tenet is that our experiences in childhood will influence who we become as adults. If we grow up in a mainly nurturing environment, we are likely to feel confident and generally contented and go on to find sustaining relationships in adult life. When this has been disrupted for whatever reasons, an individual can continue to seek out relationships in adult life in which difficult and painful earlier experiences are being repeated.
Gaining a deeper understanding of one's conscious and unconscious processes helps a person to feel more in charge, less stuck in internal conflict and more able to lead a contented and creative life. Many people who experience a loss of meaning in their lives or who are seeking a greater sense of fulfilment may be helped by psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
Psychotherapy sessions are 50 minutes long and are held once weekly or more frequently. It is often helpful to have one or more preliminary consultations before deciding if this is the appropriate treatment for the individual concerned. It is usually best considered as a long-term option and commitment between client and psychotherapist.
Psychotherapists and counsellors abide by the Codes of Ethics of their respective registering bodies. Privacy and confidentiality are ensured throughout the offered treatments.

How I Work
In an initial consultation we shall discuss the concerns that have led you to seek help and try to understand your particular needs and what kind of support would be most helpful to you.
Psychotherapy and Counselling sessions usually last 50 minutes and are held weekly or more frequently if required.
I offer counselling and psychotherapy sessions via telephone and online in the daytime and evenings from Monday to Friday.
Psychodynamic counselling in comparison is usually time-limited with once weekly sessions of 50 minutes' duration.
